The Onix Central Publishing Manager
Tour: Marketing
The Marketing screen is a very complete section of the software, allowing unprecendented amounts of marketing data to be stored in one central location.
As you can see in the screenshot, the Marketing screen is subdivided into eight areas. You can export to a webpage, press release, catalogue or AI from any of the tabs using the export icons
The General tab contains some overarching data. You can set Marketing Goals, such as the number of hits to be achieved by a campaign, and log whether these goals are achieved. You can record the use of Marketing Materials, to track what's been sent, and where. And you can write your overall strategy and set a promotional budget for the title.
Marketing Text(s) is a place to store any and all blurbs, descriptions and quotes. These are classified using the Onix standard e.g. Main Descriptions, Review Quotes, Description for Sales People, and so on. You can have an unlimited number of marketing texts here.
The next tab, Categories, lets you define up to three BIC and three BISAC categories. However, since publishers often use alternative rich categorisation schemes to manage their subject areas, you can define your own categories here too. And what's more, the OCPM comes pre-loaded with the various categorisation schemes that various retailers use, so you can set the right category for your customers. This feature comes into its own when you export to retailer Excel spreadsheets.
You can capture the intended audience of a book on the Audience tab. And if the audience is children, you can note the age range:
You can record the URLs of an unlimited number of websites, and capture their purpose and description:
Not only can you record which prizes a title has been shortlisted for or won: you can also record which prizes you've entered the title for.
Likewise with reviews: you can record where review copies have been sent, and make a note to follow them up.
Finally on Marketing, you can log the promotions which the title is featured on. This screen is actually a portal to the larger Promotions management section.
